COUNTRYSIDE

Bicycle Rides at Terraventoux

We registered for one of the Electric Bicycle Rides at Terraventoux. Three hours in the countryside, stopping along the way in beautiful hilltop villages and sampling wines of the cooperative cellar brought to us (so we didn’t have to carry them ourselves!). At the end of the tour, we stopped on a terrace at Blauvac and were amazed by the panoramic view of the Ventoux mountain (essential stage during the Tour de France bicycle race). Thanks to the wine no doubt, we ended up thinking this little mountain wouldn’t be such a big deal on a bike after all!
15€ for the 3-hour ride including the wine and food tastings.

  1. we spent a few days in Le Havre. Entry is free to these unusual gardens perched on the cliffs high above the Seine Bay in the 19th-century Fort de Sainte-Adresse. Not only do you get outstanding panoramic views across the city and the sea, the gardens are also a great spot for meeting friends and going for a stroll. The plan is that eventually all of the cities flower beds and plants will begin life in the greenhouses here. Meanwhile, visitors can discover rare plants from all five continents wander through the giant greenhouses or simply relax in the green surroundings.

  2. If you’re looking for somewhere beautiful and unusual to stay in the Norman countryside, you can’t do much better in value for money than a gîte au jardin. Selected for their exceptional gardens, all of these Gîte de France self-catering and B&B properties are owned and/or maintained by really passionate gardeners who are keen to show off their hard work and pass on their expertise to their guests.

A stone’s throw from Giverny, home to Monet’s house and gardens and the new Impressionisms Museum, is L’Aulnaie in Fontaine-sous-Jouy

Bought by Éliane and Michel Philippe in 1995, the enthusiastic couple have transformed this old Norman farm into a welcoming guest house with a fantastic garden dotted with trees and an enticing freshwater brook.
